In 1927, Heisman retired from coaching at the age of 62 and began writing magazine articles that have been printed in such publications as freedom American and Colliers Magazine, working as editor of football for Sporting Goods Journal, and then be chosen to serve as first Director Downtown Athletic Club of New York sports. During his time as Director of the Club, he founded the Touchdown Club of New York and the National Association of Football coaches.
